Vendors on the Iola town square stayed bundled in their booths Saturday morning as they greeted Farm-City Days attendees.
The square was littered with an assortment of craft vendors. Some were familiar to the annual festival but there were some newcomers.
Mickey Hicks, Iola, displayed her craftwork this year for the first time. Hicks’ booth consisted of an assortment of wood art and quilts.
“It’s a hobby that I enjoy doing,” she said as people stopped by her booth and looked around.
She has everything from autumn decorative signs to large handmade Scrabble pieces.
“My husband helps me cut the wood, but I do the painting and quilts,” she said.
Hicks said the flow of people through her booth has been steady.
Kristy Ammons, Buffalo, is familiar with the art festival scene.
“I’m somewhere every weekend,” she said.
Her booth was filled with vibrant hair bows, headbands, tutus and custom letter blocks. Ammons has a booth at the Funky Monkey in Iola and travels to many festivals throughout the year.
As the morning started to thaw out more people stopped into her booth.
“The cold really slows it down at first but it picks up when it gets warmer,” she said.
Ammons said she started out making bows for her nieces and then people started requesting orders. Demand for her items started to rise and her business “took off.”
“I’m always doing something so I thought why not do this and make money,” she said.
Ammons said she enjoys attending festivals and making her craft.
