Ellen Thompson presented a brief biography of the poet T.S. Eliot at the Sept. 25 meeting of Unity Club.
Born in the United States, Eliot spent the majority of his adult life in England. His education included Harvard, the Sorbonne and Oxford, studying philosophy and logic. After teaching for a brief time, he joined the Lloyds Bank in London and began his writing career. He left banking after three years and became a publishing director. His writing won many awards but, for Americans, his most notable is a compilation of poems titled Old Possums Book of Practical Cats. Thompson read aloud selected poems from Cats.
Seventeen members attend the meeting at the General Frederick Funston Meeting Hall.
Carol Immel will host the Oct. 8 meeting and Rose Mary Riley will give the program.
