Once again at the USD 258 Board of Education meeting, members of state teachers union were present to read a statement.
“We believe a recall of school board members is warranted due to lack of oversight and failure to require accountability from administrators,” the KNEA statement read.
The statement also claimed “improper use of school funds” were used “to exact personal gain, namely utilizing school funds for personal trips which fell outside of board member duties.” The KNEA representatives declined to elaborate beyond the prepared statement.
Curt Mueller, president of the board, responded with his own prepared statement: “To protect our employees’ privacy, we cannot discuss the specifics of any personnel matter. However, we can assure you and all the parents and patrons of USD 258 that the highest supervision and safety of all our students is our highest priority and the board of education cannot compromise or take lightly our responsibilities to supervise and provide a safe learning environment for all our students.”
In other news, Kay Bolt, elementary and middle school principal, said the recent Family Fun Night was “very successful,” with 76 percent of elementary students and 67 percent of middle school students and their families picking up free school supplies. The leftover supplies are available to those who did not attend.
Superintendent of Schools K.B. Criss reported 613 students were enrolled in the brick-and-mortar schools this year, down eight students. Another 212 were enrolled in the district’s virtual school program.
