Marmaton Valley High Schools Clara Boyd became a two-time state champion Saturday, winning in Original Oration and Serious Solo Acting categories at the Kansas Class 1A State Speech and Drama Championships in Salina. This is the second time Boyd has won state titles in the disciplines. Rachel Shaffer placed fifth in Humorous Solo Acting, while she and partner Allison Heim took seventh in Improvised Duet Acting. Heim also competed in prose Interpretation, and Tea Smith in Poetry Interpretation. The Marmaton Valley team, under the guidance of adviser Halie Luken, placed seventh out of 35 schools.
