Lincoln Elementary School third-graders partook in a field trip to Iola’s John Brown Cave, one of the newest features of the Lehigh Portland Trails complex on the south edge of town. At left, Mack Crawford-Davis, from foreground, Jayden Beene, Mason Lampe and Henry White lead a group of students along the trail. At right, guide Don Burns visits with the students at the cave’s east entrance. The field trip was a painful one for teacher’s aide Penny Herder, who suffered a leg injury after falling near the cave’s west entrance. Herder had to be escorted from the trail to receive medical treatment.
