An anonymous phone call to the Allen County Sheriff’s De-partment wound up being just the tip law enforcement officers needed to catch Garrett Cleaver.
Cleaver, wanted on a manslaughter charge out of Neosho County following a fatal traffic accident in October, was arrested in rural Jasper County in southwest Missouri Thursday evening after leading officers there on another high-speed chase.
He had led Allen County deputies on another high-speed chase nearly three weeks ago, before that chase was called.
Allen County Undersheriff Bryan Murphy said he received a call from an anonymous tipster Thursday morning, indicating Cleaver may have been at a residence in southwest Missouri. Murphy relayed the information to Jasper County.
A deputy was at the house in question when Cleaver was spotted driving by in his pickup. A chase ensued and Cleaver eventually abandoned his truck. Officers deployed a K-9 unit and helicopters in the search.
“They eventually just waited him out,” Murphy said.
Cleaver was arrested late in the afternoon.
Murphy said information about the chase was being forwarded to Allen County Attorney Jerry Hathaway in case charges of felony fleeing and eluding are filed here.
In addition, Cleaver apparently is on parole in an unrelated case out of Oklahoma, Murphy said.
Cleaver was charged with manslaughter after an Oct. 9 accident in rural Neosho County where he allegedly crossed the center line and collided head-on with another vehicle. Killed in the accident was Joseph Bagnato of Basking Ridge, N.J.
