Kent Thompson filed for re-election Tuesday to the Ninth District seat in the Kansas House of Representatives. A lifetime resident of Allen County, he is a Republican and lives in rural LaHarpe.
Thompson was appointed to the House seat in Sept. 30, 2013, to fill a vacancy created by the death of Ed Bideau, Chanute. He was elected to a full two-year term in 2014.
Thompson said he is proud for:
— Voting against the sales tax increase;
— Voting against the block grant system for public schools;
— Fighting attempts to increase taxes on ag land and farm equipment;
“Our state is facing challenging times,” said Thompson. “Unfortunately, those challenges were self-inflicted by out-of-touch politicians who don’t share our rural values. It’s time to get Kansas back to basics, where we value our agricultural community, invest in our local schools and grow jobs in our local economy.”
Thompson graduated from Iola High School and earned a degree in business administration from Pittsburg State University. He is a rancher and small business owner in Iola where he operates Thompson Realty and Auction Service and a retail liquor store. He lives with wife Susan in rural LaHarpe.
The Ninth House district contains most of Allen and Neosho counties, including Bassett, Gas, Humboldt, Iola and LaHarpe in Allen County and Chanute and Earlton in Neosho County.
