Serving is a big deal to Jenn Bycroft.
“In tennis and in life, the one who serves best often wins,” said Bycroft, Iola High girls tennis coach.
This month, Bycroft and the tennis team is focusing on a different kind of service game — community service.
The tennis team is spearheading a blue jeans drive — dubbed “Jeans for Teens.”
Until Feb. 2, the tennis team is collecting new and used denim jeans, provided they’re in good condition. The jeans must be teen- or adult-sized, Bycroft said.
The nationwide jeans drive is sponsored by clothing retailer Aeropostale. The jeans will be donated to homeless shelters across the country.
If Iola High donates the most jeans, the school would receive $5,000, a party for the school and each student a new pair of Aeropostale jeans.
“Even if we don’t win, it’s a great project,” Bycroft said.
Drop-off boxes for the jeans are at the high school, at Iola Middle School, RiverTree Christian Church and Deep Creek Engineering, 10 N. Sycamore St. Jeans also may be given to Bycroft or any tennis team member.
For more information, contact Bycroft at 228-3090.
Once collected, Bycroft will transport the jeans to an Aeropostale store in the Kansas City area.
