Second half property taxes are due Monday.
Payments sent by mail must be postmarked May 10 or before to avoid penalty, said Sharon Utley, Allen County treasurer. Taxes paid after the deadline will be subject to a prorated daily penalty based on an annual charge of 7 percent.
Until 2004, the deadline for second half property tax payments was June 20. It was changed in response to flagging state revenue to generate funds ahead of the July 1 start of the fiscal year.
