Iolan Bruce Symes filed papers Wednesday to seek a seat on the Allen County Commission.
With two candidates in the fold, a Republican primary vote will be held Aug. 7, with the top vote-getter advancing to the November General Election.
Commissioner John Brocker who was appointed to his seat in March by Republican precinct members already has filed to seek the seat for a full term.
Brocker was appointed to replace Iolan Jim Talking-ton, who resigned the seat in February. Symes was among the others who had expressed an interest in filling the seat before Brockers appointment.
No Democrats have filed for the Commission seat.
Symes and Brock-er are within Allen Countys Third Ward, which covers all but the northwest part of Iola, as well as points west.
Symes, 55, is the Writing Center coordinator and journalism instructor at Allen community college. He is a former Register reporter.
The filing deadline is noon June 1.
