Pool opens for summer on Monday
Summer Splash 2010 festivities will kick off the Iola Municipal Pool swimming season on Monday.
The Memorial Day opening will feature a number of contests, prizes and other giveaways, as well as live broadcasts by 101.5 KIKS Radio.
The pool will remain open from 1 to 8 p.m. seven days a week, with special adult swim times from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Parent-toddler swim times are dedicated each from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
Daily admission costs are $1 for children ages 6-17 and $2 for those ages 18-64. Swimmers 5 and under or 65 and older are admitted free of charge.
The city will offer free admission to the pool for everyone on June 16 and July 21.
In addition, private pool parties can be scheduled from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Call the Iola Recreation Department, 365-4990, or the pool, 365-4933, for details.
Swim lessons — both public and private — begin June 28, with the registration slated to begin June 14.
The Iola Recreation Department will sponsor a shallow water exercise class July 12 for those 16 and older, while an isometric water exercise class begins July 19.
The Iola Swim Team has dibs on the pool the afternoons of June 9 and 23 and July 7 and 14. The pool will close early on those days. The pool also will be closed all day July 24 for the Southeast Kansas League Swim Tournament.
Daily admission ticket books can be purchased at the Recreation office during normal business hours for $30 for 25 tickets. The tickets are good for one day’s admission, regardless of age.
The summer swimming season ends Aug. 15. The pool will not open any day the temperature is below 68 degrees, or if severe weather is imminent.
