Students attend state FBLA

MORAN — Five Marmaton Valley Future Business Leaders of America chapter members attended the State FBLA Conference March 28-29 at the Topeka Expo Center.

The conference consisted of the students participating in business-oriented competitions against FBLA students from across the state.

Senior Clara Boyd took home second place in public speaking, qualifying to attend FBLA Nationals in Baltimore in June.

Others representing Marmaton Valley were seniors Genna Mitchell and Emily Smart, junior Elizabeth Johnson and sophomore Nate McAloon.

The state competition followed a district event held at Prairie View High School in La Cygne.

Boyd took first in public speaking there and fourth in help desk. Johnson earned the top score in accounting I, McAloon third in impromptu speaking and Mitchell sixth in business law.

Others competing at district were seniors Makayla Brooks, Shayla Brooks and Isabelle Bigelow and junior Kari Shadden.

The students are under the guidance of adviser Rayna Kidd.
