MORAN — Karlie Stephens, 13, is a busy girl.
Sunday afternoon the Moran Marmaton Valley eighth-grader was recognized by the Jones-Hardy American Legion Post for all she does, in school and for the community.
The Kansas American Legion had asked the Moran post to recognize a Scout for community involvement. With no Scout organization in Moran, permission was granted to select a student who had contributed much to the community.
That Karlie was picked came as no surprise.
In addition to being involved in all school and summer sports, she is in 4-H and president of the Marmaton Valley Junior High student council. She helped with Vacation Bible School, rang a bell to collect money for the Salvation Army, collected food for the community pantry, and also assisted with the Wounded Warriors Fishing Program and Wreaths Across America at the National Cemetery in Fort Scott.
Karlie is the daughter of George and Lori Stephens, Moran.
