TOPEKA — Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab announced Friday on social media that he has lung cancer.
A cancerous nodule on his lung was discovered in December during a routine screening, Schwab said. He is expected to undergo surgery next week to have it removed.
“My doctors have confirmed it was found very early, and no further treatment will be required post-surgery. I will make a full recovery,” Schwab posted.
Schwab said he will take time to recover, but remains committed to his position as Secretary of State.
A Republican, Schwab is also campaigning for governor in 2026. He was elected secretary of state in 2018 and reelected in 2022 after serving in the Legislature, representing an Olathe district.
