HUTCHINSON — One of Hutchinson’s seven elementary schools will be closed at the end of the school year because of difficulties in finding teachers.
The Hutchinson School Board voted, 5-1, to close Lincoln Elementary School during a special board meeting.
Superintendent Dawn Johnson said the district is 14 teachers short of being fully staffed.
“It’s just a crisis this year,” Johnson said, according to the Hutchinson News.
A committee looking into consolidation also noted a decline in school-age children in Hutchinson, the newspaper reported.
The students will be absorbed into nearby McCandless Elementary School.
