BURLINGTON — Burlington High School classes will be canceled until Tuesday because of an increase in COVID-19 cases, according to WIBW television station.
The spike in illnesses follows the Labor Day holiday weekend.
A Facebook post by Superintendent Craig Marshall says the high school’s absence rate went from 1.8% on Friday, Sept. 3, to more than 11% on Wednesday, Sept. 8.
Not all of the illnesses were attributed to COVID-19, Marshall told the television station.
Monday had already been scheduled as an inservice day district-wide.
All of the school’s sports and school-related activities through Monday have been canceled. Teams will be allowed to practice on Monday.
Burlington Middle School and Burlington Elementary School will continue with in-person learning since their illness rates are stable.
