Chanute restaurant, bar to close

CHANUTE — Dalton’s Back 9, a bar and restaurant at Chanute’s Stone Creek Golf Course will close.

Owners Michael and Haley Dalton cited labor shortages and increased food costs, according to the Chanute Tribune.

“It’s a very, very hard decision to make,” Michael Dalton told the newspaper.

The Daltons operated the restaurant for seven years.

Grocery store opens in Parsons

PARSONS — Twin brothers Caleb and Benjamin Newton have opened Granddad’s Discount Groceries in Parsons, and already have plans to expand to Caney soon.

The store was named in honor of the Newtons’ grandfather, Warren Marlow, who started a pest control business in Parsons, according to the Parsons Sun.

Customers must place orders from their website, granddadsgroceries.com, which lists an inventory of groceries available.

The inventory consists mostly of discounted food, with some items close to their expiration dates or with damaged packaging, the newspaper noted, but is still safe to consume.

Two arrested in shooting death

PITTSBURG  — Two people are behind bars in connection with the Friday shooting death of a southeast Kansas man.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation reported the arrests of Collin Pal Gebford, 43, and Travis Blake Conness, 32, following an incident Friday that resulted in the death of David Duane Mays, 51, of Weir.

According to a KBI press release, Pittsburg police officers received a 911 call from Gebford Friday afternoon, reporting somebody had been shot.

Police found the victim in the roadway on North Main Street in Pittsburg, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. An autopsy was planned for this week.
