Iola firefighters were able to extinguish a potential fire at the home of Iolan Ben Culbertson Saturday night.

Firefighters were called to Culbertson’s home after smoke was seen coming from a second-story bedroom.

The smoke came from an overloaded junction box, according to Iola Fire Department reports.

A wire had burned in two and nearby wall insulation had been smoldering, as had a pair of ceiling joists.

Firefighters sprayed foam onto the smoldering pieces, cutting extra holes into the wall to ensure all of the hot spots had been extinguished.

The house sustained smoke and water damage, enough that Culbertson must find temporary housing until the structure is repaired.

The American Red Cross is assisting Culbertson with other household needs.

Attempts to reach Culbertson this morning were unsuccessful.

There were no injuries.
