Allen County is shaping up.
Registration for the fourth annual Allen County Meltdown challenge begins Monday.
The Meltdown is an eight-week, county-wide program, challenging Allen Countians to lead a healthy lifestyle by eating better foods and exercising more.
In the past the program drew in mostly women. Meltdown committee members are pushing for more male involvement this year.
“We are targeting an additional 30 men to join the program, at least,” Thrive Allen County program director, Damaris Kunkler, said.
Throughout the program raffle tickets will be given out to participants for registering, weighing in and attending a Meltdown scheduled event, Kunkler said.
Women participants will receive an additional ticket for signing up a man.
At the end of the eight-week program all tickets will be placed in a drawing, giving participants an opportunity to win Meltdown related prizes.
THE MELTDOWN website will go live by the end of this week, according to Kunkler. The site will help participants keep up with scheduled events and record weight and minutes of exercise.
Logging in is optional but it is a good way to keep track of not only an individual’s improvement but all of Allen County as well.
The website gives participants a library of helpful links to visit such as a calorie counter, affordable and healthy recipes and health sites.
A NEW event will be added to the Meltdown this year, “walk it, wear it, Wednesdays.”
Participants will be asked to wear the Meltdown shirt they will be given at registration and walk around town.
