Seussical, musical celebration

Iola High School's jazz band members helped Iola Elementary School celebrate National Reading Week with a Dr. Seuss-themed musical performance Thursday.

The Iola High School jazz band, performing as The Seuss Band, entertained Iola Elementary School students with a medley of tunes to start the day Thursday in honor of Dr. Seuss Week.

The energetic performance enticed the youngsters to sway back and forth before the performance ended with the IHS school fight song.

Afterward, band member Bethany Miller, dressed as the Cat in the Hat, led the youngsters as they recited the flag salute to start the school day.

Thursday’s fun was part of National Reading Week, held each mark to note the birthday of Theodore Geisel, known to legions of fans as Dr. Seuss.

Geisel wrote more than 60 books as Dr. Seuss, and was born March 2, 1904. He died in 1991.
