Iola High School Principal Scott Carson arrived at school Wednesday with a hunch something would be amiss.
He was right.
The graduating Class of 2022 kept alive a long-standing tradition with a senior prank.
While harmless, their handiwork was impossible to miss.
Saran-wrapped entrances, chairs stacked atop tables and the occasional stringed hot dog greeted students and teachers alike as they arrived.
The chef-d’œuvre, however, was the meticulously pyramid-shaped stack of chairs in the gymnasium, including one placed atop one of the baskets on the north end of the basketball court.
It took the mischief-makers about 90 minutes to complete their tasks.
That’s because they’re not allowed into the building until staffers are inside.
The students have a few cardinal rules they still must follow.
First, they cannot do anything illegal.
Second, they cannot break or damage any school property.
And finally, “they have to clean it up,” Carson said.
They did so, but only after posing for photographs to capture their shenanigans for perpetuity.
“At least it’s only one day a year,” Carson chuckled.
