Fun and games are on the menu Friday for the Iola Elementary School Carnival, which runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Iola Middle School.

The carnival will offer up raffle prizes for young and old, an assortment of food and snacks, an inflatable obstacle course and a series of games, such as a ring toss, duck pond, “fishing” area, Hot Wheels racing track, plinko and a cake walk.

The event has been moved to the middle school after previous years at Jefferson Elementary School because of space, noted Melissa Genoble, one of the organizers.

Before the move to attendance centers, the Jefferson carnival hosted roughly 200 students and their parents. But with all three schools taking part in a unified PTO, those numbers have swollen to nearly 600 students.

“We owe a huge thanks to everyone who is playing a part in this,” Genoble said, singling out school secretaries and Karen Price, a middle school teacher, for putting the logistics in place for the expanded carnival.

“Their teamwork and leadership have been phenomenal,” Genoble said.

Attendees are asked to enter the south doors of the middle school.

The events will take place in the IMS gym and commons area.

Proceeds will benefit the school district.

A decision on where to put the funding will be made in April, Genoble said.
