No bomb exploded Monday morning at Iola High School.

“One Monday down and two to go,” said Principal David Grover of a message scribbled in an IHS restroom that said a bomb would “go off at 8:59 on Monday in October.”

“We really didn’t expect anything to happen, but you have to take everything seriously,” Grover said. “The message didn’t specify a date, just said ‘Monday.’”

A paraprofessional found the message last week behind the toilet paper dispenser in a small women’s/girls’ restroom used sparingly most days, so much so that 10 hours of video surveillance recordings outside the rest room showed just six people entering the previous day.

To be on the safe side, Grover sent parents a letter noting the scribbled threat and that precautions were being taken, including extra police patrols near the school.

“Attendance was normal today,” he said Monday afternoon.
