HUMBOLDT — USD 258 board members Tuesday night approved a five-year professional development plan, which meets staff development regulations laid out by the Kansas Department of Education.
A template for individual, building and district focuses was laid out by the Southeast Kansas Education Service Center, Greenbush, and was tailored to USD 258’s curriculum, said Superintendent of Schools K.B. Criss.
The plan notes how goals are to be developed.
Among questions asked of teachers are:
— What did I know that I didn’t know before?
— What am I doing that I didn’t do before?
— What’s the result of newly acquired knowledge and skills in terms of impact on students, other adults or program or policy development?
Mainly, the goal is for teachers to evolve within their profession and give students better opportunities to succeed.
Following a series of executive sessions totaling 80 minutes, board members approved hiring two instructors and a coach.
Linda Honas will have part-time duties with at-risk elementary students. She retired from teaching third grade at Humboldt Elementary.
Scott Brady will teach secondary level social studies half-time.
Aubrey Jones will be Humboldt High’s basketball coach next season. Last year she was Pittsburg St. Mary’s Colgin High School girls basketball and track coach. Before that she was a graduate assistant in Pittsburg State University women’s basketball program and coached Allen Community College women’s basketball 2011-13.
The BOE will meet next on the evening of June 9.
