Some key personnel in the Iola school district resigned Monday night, effective at the end of the school year.

Iola High Principal David Grover, in his fourth year at the helm, is leaving USD 257 to become the superintendent of the Cheney school district, USD 268. Though the USD 257 board hasn’t officially accepted her resignation, Jodi Grover, IHS counselor and David’s wife, is expected to take a position as assistant principal at Maize Middle School, USD 266.

Curriculum director Gail Dunbar also put in her resignation at Monday evening’s USD 257 board meeting. Dunbar, in her seventh year overseeing district academics, has accepted the superintendent position in the Plainville school district, USD 270.

With so many positions
opening up, USD 257 Superintendent Brian Pekarek said he and the board will explore the option of consolidating some of the vacant positions with ones currently filled to reduce district expenses.

“But that’s something we won’t decide for a little bit,” he said.

The board also announced high school English teacher Erica French will step down at the end of the school year; and that it has placed McKinley Elementary Title I teacher Kristin Michael on probation for unspecified reasons.
