SAVONBURG — Saturday’s annual Savonburg Fall Festival will feature a parade for the first time in the celebration’s history.
Melody Burkholder, one of the organizers, isn’t certain of what to expect, but she’s optimistic.
“We do know it’ll be enough that the parade will be able to pass by the spectators, and they won’t have to walk by the parade,” she joked.
The parade kickstarts the activities at 12:30 p.m., but there’s plenty of fun afterward, with a cake walk, balloon toss, potato sack race, bingo games, candy grab and tug of war to follow.
A costume contest also is in the works, as is an opportunity quilt drawing.
A chili cook off is planned from 3 to 4:30 p.m., with the winner announced at 5 o’clock.
WHILE FOLKS are in town, Burkholder hopes to grab the attention of a few old-timers to help with picture identification.
As part of the ongoing effort to celebrate Savonburg’s past and its future, the library has received piles of old pictures.
While Burkholder, et al, are able to identify some of the subjects in the photos, there are many that remain a mystery.
“It would be great if we could get more of the folks identified,” she said.
Several of the photos are available via Savonburg Pride’s Facebook page.
