With it being election year, SAFE BASE staff thought it only appropriate to dedicate the first session of the after-school program to getting patriotic.
For the past couple of months students have been learning about presidents’ favorite foods, how to be ready for paparazzi and how to be a White House chef.
On Wednesdays students have had blue-plate dinners, eating foods they prepared earlier in the day.
The meals have all been practice for the big night, Nov. 5, when they have hold a blue-plate special dinner for parents and staff in the Jefferson Elementary gym, in honor of the Nov. 6 general elections.
In addition to having a presidential dinner, a two-man comedy show will put on a show, “The Presidents.”
The group is coming from the Coterie Theatre at Kansas City’s Crown Plaza. The show is funded by the Bowlus Fine Arts Center.
The show will give a brief history of 44 presidents in 45 minutes.
Students also encouraged their parents to register to vote; three did.

SAFE BASE will be Wednesday, Halloween, and the final preparations for the dinner will be made that day.
