The skeletal remains found in a rural Neosho County soybean field last August have been identified as those of a Chanute woman missing since December 2017, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation announced Wednesday.

Marissa M. Craft, last seen leaving her Chanute home in a pickup truck with three men on Dec. 15, 2017, was identified through forensic examination, the Chanute Tribune reported.

Craft’s death is being treated as suspicious, KBI announced in a call for more information. Those with any information regarding the crime are encouraged to contact the Neosho County Sheriff’s Office, (620) 244-3888, or call (800) KS-CRIME.

Craft was 39 at the time of her disappearance. She was last seen with the three men in a white Dodge pickup. She took no possessions, and her cell phone had been off since that evening, the Tribune reported.

Adding to the mystery, Craft’s last known residence, at 1120 N. Grant St. in Chanute, was destroyed by a fire in February 2018.

Her remains were found by a farmer mowing in the area about three miles south and two miles east of Thayor, or about 20 miles south of Chanute.

The remains were taken to the Shawnee County Coroner’s office.
