The Humboldt Board of Education met on Monday night and listened to a report from Recreation Director Darcie Croisant.
Croisant said that the summer baseball and softball programs had 16 total teams with 202 participants. They also had 206 participants in swimming lessons. Terry Meadows supervises the program, which featured 35 Humboldt youths who served as teachers, aides and lifeguards.
The Humboldt Recreation Center will be holding its annual Back to School Family Fun Night on Friday, Aug. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. The cheerleading squad, football team and volleyball team will be on hand to serve meals. The groups served over 400 hotdogs at last years event.
Don Hauser reported that the ANW Co-op was looking to replace a couple of vehicles. Hauser said that they needed a new van and a car, which they would lease.
Hauser said that administrators at the Co-op would be attending a leadership conference at the end of the month.
Superintendent Kay Lewis reported that the trapshooting program went to the state tournament in its first year and finished 10th out of 23 schools. Lewis said that the school has been approached by students from Iola and Moran, who want to take part in the program.
We might want to see if they are so interested that they want to attend our schools, Lewis said.
Lewis said that new carpet had been put in the storm shelter and band room.
Lewis said administrators will start working on next years budget on July 22.
The board appointed Helen Harrington as a representative for the Kansas Association of School Boards. Harrington will also serve as an alternate ANW Co-op Board representative. Nathan Ellison was re-appointed as the recreation liason. All positions were passed with 6-0 votes.
The board also approved Rodney Burns to do the school districts audit engagement letter.
