Ground has been broken and progress is being made on the 25-acre site for a new PrairieLand Partners’ facility at the northwest corner of U.S. 169 and Oregon Road.
Iola annexed the land earlier this year.
PrairieLand Partners plans to spend an estimated $14 million on the new store, which serves as a John Deere farm implement dealership.
Iola Council members voted at their Sept. 25 meeting to split the cost with PrairieLand to extend a new a sewer line to the facility at a projected cost of $69,552.70. The project is currently in progress.
Iola store manager Dale Lalman noted the construction project is “right on schedule,” with the completion date set for November 2024.
The new facility will be 74,000 square feet and include a second floor. Construction is set to being in February.
“We’re super thankful for a community that worked with us to make this happen,” Lalman said.
“We cover a nine-county area. To be able to do that and continue to have a local facility, we needed to expand.”
