Bicyclist hit by car

Walter A. Kailer, 64, was taken by ambulance to the hospital Thursday afternoon after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle in downtown Iola.

The Iola Police Department reported Shawn M. Manbeck, 46, was backing from a parking stall in the 10 block of West Madison when her car struck Kailer’s eastbound bicycle.

The severity of Kailer’s injuries weren’t released.

Arrests reported

A traffic stop Wednesday at the intersection of Benton and Sycamore streets led to the arrest of Hollis F. Grewing, 37, Iola. Sgt. Bob Droessler of the Iola Police Department said Grewing faces charges of criminal use of a weapon (controlling a firearm while addicted to a controlled substance), possessing marijuana with two prior convictions, possessing opiate, narcotic or stimulant, possessing drug paraphernalia, violating driver’s license restrictions and no registration or liability insurance. Grewing is being held without bond in the Allen County Jail.

Officers arrested Matthew Meek, 26, Iola, Wednesday for suspicion of consuming alcohol in public in the 100 block of North Washington Avenue.

Allen County sheriff’s deputies arrested Garen K. Sager, 33, rural Moran, for suspicion of criminal damage to property.

Iola police officers arrested Jeremiah J. Specht, 33, Pittsburg, on an arrest warrant Sunday.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Justin D. Powell, 39, Moran, Sunday for suspicion of driving without a license and no liability insurance.

Ray A. Russell, 58, Gas, was arrested Sunday for suspicion of felony interfering with law enforcement, deputies said.

Iola police officers arrested Jon M. Kettle, 53, Iola, on a warrant June 9.

Deputies arrested Zachory E. Anderson, 20, Moran for suspicion of driving while suspended June 8.

Jeremy M. Tyree, 38, Bixby, Okla., was arrested by deputies June 8 for suspicion of driving while suspended and improper registration.

Deputies arrested RaeJean P. Spicer, 21, Lawrence, and Kiri P. Gilkey, 23, Broken Arrow, Okla., June 8, both for suspicion of possessing cocaine, possessing marijuana with intent to distribute the drug and possessing drug paraphernalia.

Deputies arrested George W. Hardin II, 36, Bronson, on a court order June 8.

Jeremy D. Lankard, 36, Garnett, was arrested by deputies June 7 for suspicion of driving while suspended. Lankard also was wanted on a warrant, deputies said.

Iola police officers arrested Kerry D. Morris June 7 for a pair of warrants.
