Sting leads to
chase, arrest
Virgil Battles, 17, was arrested Sept. 18 for suspicion of felony theft, after he was accused of stealing a motorcycle belonging to Nathan Gonzales in the 100 block of West Neosho Street. The motorcycle was recovered, Police Chief Jared Warner said, after officers had heard Battles was attempting to sell the stolen cycle.
They arranged a meeting, with an officer posing as the prospective buyer, when Battles was arrested.
Battles escaped from custody as he was being processed, officers said, which led to a foot chase. Officers apprehended Battles and took him back into custody. Additional charges of aggravated escape from custody, battery of a law enforcement officer and interfering with law enforcement are being requested.
Arrests reported
Anthony Ellis, Iola, was arrested shortly after midnight Sunday morning for suspicion of domestic battery in the 300 block of South Fourth Street, Iola police officers reported.
Katy Hill, 24, was arrested Friday in the 700 block of East Madison Avenue for a warrant out of Iola Municipal Court.
Officers arrested Devon Simpson, 22, Fort Scott, for an Iola city warrant Sept. 20.
Robert Stufflebeam Jr., 44, Iola, was arrested Sept. 19 for suspicion of theft and interfering with law enforcement after officers received a report of a stolen wallet from the 2200 block of North State Street. The wallet, belonging to Roger Whitaker, was recovered, as were all of its contents.
Michelle L. Hanshaw was arrested Sept. 18 for suspicion of disorderly conduct in the 300 block of North Walnut Street.
Cassandra Geisler, 26, Iola, was arrested for suspicion of disorderly conduct Sept. 17 in the 1500 block of Montana Road.
Shotgun stolen
David Becker told police Friday his storage unit in the 300 block of North Jefferson Avenue was broken into, with a Mossburg shotgun and two wildlife prints taken.
Search warrant
executed
Iola police officers executed a search warrant Sept. 17 in the 1300 block of North State Street during a drug investigation initiated by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
No arrests were made, and no charges are requested, officers said.
Citations issued
Jacob Kale, 19, Moran, was cited Monday evening for suspicion of possessing alcohol as a minor, transporting an open container of alcohol and speeding in the 1800 block of East Street, officers said.
On Sept. 18, Derick Peterson was cited for suspicion of criminal damage to property in the 400 block of Eisenhower Drive.
Bike found
Iola police officers found a black 24-inch Mongoose bicycle in the 1600 block of Nebraska Road Monday morning.
