A pilot was able to land safely at Allen County Airport Saturday after the landing gear of his airplane malfunctioned.
According to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, a hydraulic hose connected to the plane’s landing gear had broken.
The pilot, whose name was not released, briefly considered a belly landing at the airport as Iola firefighters, ambulance personnel, sheriff’s deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to the airport.
The pilot and his passenger were able to manually lower the landing gear and lock it into place, thus allowing the aircraft to land safely.
Once the plane receive an otherwise clean bill of health, the pilot and his passenger were able to depart and fly to Joplin Regional Airport for repairs.
There were no injuries.
