ERIE — A St. Paul teenager is in custody following a vandalism crime spree Saturday evening.

The incident ended when the teen was caught after reportedly driving a stolen pickup into Erie High School.

KOAM TV reported the 16-year-old suspect first broke into a St. Paul convenience store and ransacked the interior before breaking into several vehicles at the store.

The teen drove off in one of the vehicles there, reportedly damaging the front door of a St. Paul bank before traveling to Erie High.

There, the teen rammed through the front entrance with the truck and drove down the halls, eventually ending up stuck in the shop doors at the east end of the building.

Erie Police Chief Tyler Riggs told KOAM the juvenile reportedly documented the crash and damage via Snapchat. Residents alerted police of the video.

“I responded after I was notified and was able to locate the individual still in the building where he was apprehended,” Riggs told KOAM. “It came through the building at a high rate of speed. It caused significant damage to a lot of very personable items in the building.”

Crews worked through the day Sunday to clear the wreckage in order for classes to resume this morning at Erie.

The teenager, whose name has not been released, was taken to a detention center.
