The late coach William Glenn Curly Percy will be inducted Thursday into the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame at the GKCFCA All-Star Game Thursday at Leavenworth High School.
The plaque will be presented to Percys family at a halftime ceremony.
Percy coached football and taught at the high school, community college and university level in Kansas and Oklahoma from 1956 through 2003. He also served as athletic director at various times.
In addition to league championships and undefeated seasons, Percy twice was chosen to coach at the Kansas Shrine Bowl, as well as at the Kansas City Big Brothers All-Star Game and the Kansas City Metro Dream Classic. He also was chosen the Cecil B. Patterson Coach of the Year, received the Kansas City Chiefs Coaching Award and earned the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame Pride of Kansas Award.
In addition to his success on the field, his family notes the countless relationships Percy fostered outside the lines.
He achieved a lifetime of greatness in the field of competition, while maintaining the highest level of integrity in positively influencing the lives of his football players, daughter Mona Melvin told the Register.
Attending the ceremony will be Percys wide, Jeanne Ann Masterson Percy, and his four children, Mona Melvin, Marky Percy and wife Trina, all of Iola, Michelle Johnson and husband Chuck, Ottawa, and Maureen Carroll, Lenexa; most of his 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, four step grandchildren and a stepgreat-grandchild; as well as many of his former players.
The family also will attend a pre-game reception. The all-star game features standouts from Kansas and Missouri high schools.
