Sounds of air compressors, nail guns and saws, fill the building at 112 S. Washington.
Parker Stapp stops to look around at his work, which should be finished by the end of the week.
While his fiancee Shawna Buckwold may not be able to read his mind, she trusts his work and is watching his vision take shape.
The Fort Scott trio of Stapp, Buckwold and friend Mellisa Sprague, are putting the final touches on The Outsiders Bar and Grill.
The name is rather fitting.
?We are outsiders in every sense of the word. We march to the beat of our own drum,? Buckwold said. ?We never fit in. We are not from here.?
True, but their hometown of Fort Scott is not exactly foreign.
Buckwold is originally from New Hampshire, while Sprague and Stapp, moved to Kansas from Missouri.
The three say they always knew a restaurant was in their future. They just didn?t know when or where. But while visiting Iola they became intrigued by what the city had to offer.
And after a tour of what used to be the Sidelines restaurant, the trio knew opportunity was knocking at their door.
?We walked in and we were like, where do we sign?? said Buckwold. ?Our goal is to bring something new and fresh to the people of Iola.?
Appetizers, burgers, wraps, sandwiches and steaks, will all be on the menu.
?We are going to have a full service bar and grill,? Sprague said. ?This will not be a sports bar. This will be a place where people can come and unwind after a day at work. A place where people can relax, go out for a date, or get a quiet evening away from the kids.?
Buckwold and Sprague have worked in the restaurant business for over 15 years. After working for others, they wanted to try working for themselves.
?After seeing how people do not do things the right way, we decided we were going to do it the right way. Or at least what is right to us,? Buckwold said.
