The Allen County Historical Museum and Frederick Funston home were visited by 189 people during fundraiser open houses on Friday and Saturday.
Guests generously gave $1,750 at the two-day event which will be doubled by the Modern Woodmen of America.
The money will be used to re-paint the Funston home.
Those who could not attend the open houses but would like to make a donation may send it to the historical society at 20 S. Washington Ave., Iola, KS 66749.
“I am so grateful to those who visited the museums last weekend. We worked hard to decorate the buildings for the holiday season,” said Jeff Kluever, executive director of the historical society.
THE GOAL of $10,000 needed to refurbish the Old Jail Museum was surpassed with donations totaling $14,400.
Kluever said he has applied for a $57,600 Heritage Trust Fund Grant from the sate to complete work on the Old Jail and will find out in February if the historical society will receive the grant money.
