For the past two years the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City has taken nominations and chosen a recipient of the Healthy Allen Award. The problem this year is no one has yet to be nominated.

The award is presented to an individual or an organization that promotes good health among the uninsured and underserved in Allen County, according to communications with foundation representative Jennifer Sykes.

The recipient receives a plaque and $5,000.

“If a non-profit organization receives the award it can keep the money. If an individual is awarded the money they can choose any non-profit organization they want to receive the money,” Sykes said.

Joe Works of Humboldt received the money the first year and gave the money to Hope Unlimited. The second year Angela Eyster was awarded the money and chose SAFE BASE to be the recipient.

Nomination criteria is as follows:

— The nominee organized or was the leader of initiative(s) that helped underserved individuals and families in Allen County lead a healthier life.

— The nominee has actively influenced public policies that helped uninsured or underserved people in Allen County lead healthier lives.

— The nominee has been a significant participant in events and activities that helped uninsured and underserved individuals and families in Allen County lead healthier lives.

— The nominee has worked or volunteered to help the uninsured and underserved individuals and families in Allen County lead healthier lives.

The name of the nominee and their information will need to be provided along with a short 500 words or less description as to why the person or organization deserves the award.

A person is able to nominate him/herself.

The recipient will be announced in November at Thrive Allen County’s annual dinner.

The deadline to submit applications has been extended to Oct. 15. Nominations can be made online at hcfgkc.org or call (816) 241-7006 for more information.
