Things likely wont go according to script when Iola natives Jasmine Bannister and Jordan Strickler take the stage Saturday.
They couldnt be happier about it.
Bannister and Strickler will be joined by fellow thespian for a day of improvisation at the Iola Community Theatre Warehouse.
The trio will lead an improv class from 4 to 5:30 p.m., Saturday at the ICT Warehouse, 203 S. Jefferson Ave.
From there, theyll perform for the public at 7 oclock, also at the warehouse.
The basic elements of improvisation will be on display at both events, Bannister said, from skits made famous in such shows as Whose Line Is It Anyway? to long-form skits and plays.
Enrollment in the afternoon class costs $10 and is open to adults and high school students. Tickets for the evening show sell for $10 as well.
Proceeds will go to the ICT Warehouse for purchase of a new light board and sound system.
The entertainment value should appeal to both adults and children, Bannister said.
We arent R rated, but we arent G rated either, Bannister joked. Were probably PG-13.
Improvisation working without a script has become old hat for both Bannister and Strickler, both of whom specialized in the discipline with the IHS forensics team.
Then, when both enrolled at Kansas State University, they joined On The Spot, an improv troupe that performed regularly for their fellow K-Staters and others in the Manhattan area.
After graduating from KSU about three years ago, Bannister moved on to become a music teacher in the Kansas City area. Strickler, who graduated from IHS a couple of years after Bannister, is now studying medicine at the University of Kansas.
But the acting bug has stuck around for both.
Bannister and other friends formed Crusty Mustard, a comedy troupe that performs once a month at The Buffalo Room in Kansas Citys Westport District, and for other special events.
