MOUND CITY — Two men arrested after they allegedly attempted to rob Citizens Bank, Kincaid, and then exchanged gunfire with Kansas Highway Patrol troopers remain in the Linn County Jail here.
The incident, which unfolded last Wednesday morning, remains under investigation. No charges have been filed in Linn County, where gunfire erupted, or in Anderson County. Kincaid is in the southeast corner of Anderson County.
The suspects are Daniel Waddell, 29, and Stephen Hudson, 32.
According to several sources, the two allegedly approached the Kincaid bank and were not permitted to enter, apparently because of employee concerns about their appearances. The bank has a buzz-in door system.
Employees also called 911, and noted the vehicle carrying the two was headed east from Kincaid. Two troopers intercepted the vehicle in Linn County. Before surrendering one of the suspects fired on the troopers, a KHP spokesman, Lt. Mike Thweatt, told the Register. Fire was returned.
No one was injured.
