Christian Church

Darren McGhee gave the Communion meditation on the importance of celebrating Ascension Day, which is Thursday. Ascension can be defined as moving to a higher or more powerful position. It is the 40th day after the resurrection of Jesus and was the day the disciples received the Holy Spirit. Chase Riebel gave the sermon on “Fishing for Folk,” referencing Matthew 4:18-22.

Men’s Bible study is at 7 p.m. Tuesday; youth group meets at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a meal and prayer at 5:30 and adult Bible study at 7 p.m.

Working Wonders CWC will meet Monday; May 20 will be celebration of graduates.

Cowboy Church

Sunday’s service at High Point Cowboy Church started with Leo Ramsey giving announcements and a special musical selection by Christina Westergren, Oklahoma City. Pastor Jon Petty reading from Colossians 1:9-18 said believers have been moved from the power of darkness into another Kingdom, the influence of heaven.

UMC

A breakfast was held at the United Methodist Church Sunday in honor of high school senior Makayla Jones. She received cards, gifts and will receive a scholarship from the church.

Scripture included Psalm 98, Acts 10: 44-48, 1 John 5: 1-6 and John 15: 9-17. Pastor Dorothy Welch presented the sermon, “His Mysterious Ways” or “How Sometimes There is No Way of Outguessing God.”

Skate party

Like to roller skate, but don’t want to be embarrassed in front of the kids? Then join an Adult Skate Night from 6 to 8 p.m. May 17 at Skate City in Chanute. Admission is $3 per person. Please bring a side dish to share in a potluck meal. Drinks may be purchased at the concession stand; everything else will be provided.

111th Colony/Crest Alumni

The annual reunion is May 26 at the Crest gymnasium. Registration will begin at 5 p.m., dinner served at 6:30. Advance tickets are $18; tickets at the door cost $20. Advance tickets are helpful to the caterer.

BOE

Two special meetings were called April 30 and May 3 to discuss the superintendent of schools candidates. One candidate was offered the job, but did not accept.

Council

Colony’s water tower was drained March 30 and the tower inspected.

Parks and Recreational committee agreed to purchase paint for the ball park bleachers.
