Eighty people attended the 2018 Easter Sunday morning services. Myrna Wildschuetz played “The Holy City” for the prelude and “Via Dolorosa” for the special music .

“Light of the Resurrection” was the title of Pastor Steve Traw’s message, taken from John 20:1-18.

Celebrating birthdays this week were Fred Heinz Wednesday and Pastor Traw today. Lyle and Linda Bartholomew celebrated their wedding anniversary today.

The Maundy Thursday and Communion Service were March 29. David Loomis led the singing. Pastor Traw’s message came from Matthew 26:17-30, “The Appointed Tim.”

He also gave a brief summary on the origins of the songs used in the evening’s service: “There Is a Fountain,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Near the Cross.”

Assisting Pastor Steve with Communion were David Ensminger, Glen Herschberger, Virginia Warren, Merrill Hodgden and David Loomis.

Pastor Steve leads Bible Study at 3 p.m. Tuesdays on the first book of Corinthians.

Around town

Branden, Ashley and Jaxsen Birk hosted an Easter dinner at their home east of Gridley last weekend. Attending were Jack and Beverly Franklin, Greg and Jackie McIntyre, Jim Hinson, Joanne Mc-Intyre and Zack, Kady, Zoey and Kline Mc-Intyre. An Easter egg hunt followed dinner.

The Harmony ladies club met Monday at Rookies in Iola with Carol June Smith as hostess. Refreshments were served to Dixie Bunch, Rita Sanders, Wanda Lytle, Jean Prothe, Paulie Hawk, Jan Powell and Joanne McIntyre. Margret Wille, Olpe, sister-in-law of Jim Hinson, and Jim’s daughter, Diana Deeds, Emporia, paid a visit Thursday to Jim and Joanne McIntyre. Margret visited with Cathy Lynch about the good old days of the Old St. John’s Catholic School. Cathy had a selection of old pictures and articles.
