David Loomis celebrated his birthday Tuesday. Gene and Naomi Chambers celebrated their wedding anniversary Friday.

Pastor Steve Traw’s message, “Grandmother’s Soap,” was taken from the Malachi 3:1-5.

Assisting Pastor Traw with communion were David Loomis, Rick Burton, David Ensminger and Glen Herschberger.

Pastor Traw leads Bible study at 3 p.m. Tuesday on the New Testament book of Acts.

Country Club

The Carlyle Ladies Country Club met recently with Jeanice Cress at the Carlyle Fellowship Hall.

Jeanice led the program on “Apple Day.” She gave each member an apple and apple quiz and read “The Layman’s 10 Commandments.”

Also attending were Naomi Chambers, Alice Dowell, Pauli Hawk, Joanne McIntyre, June O’Dell, Pat Shields, Joyce Sneed, Rita Sanders and Cheryl Klingensmith.

Pat won the door prize, and will host the November meeting in her home.

Around town

Phyllis Loomis hosted a 70th birthday party for David. Attending were Rod and Suzanne Loomis, Krista, Sam and Zachary of Walton, Ray and Cindy Ladd of Effingham, Matt, Michelle and Maegan Loomis of Humboldt, Justin and Lisa Der, Nathaniel, Elias, Levi, Hudson, Johanna, Caleb, Esme and Elena Der, Indianapolis, and Chad, Jana, Jaylen, Emerson, Owen Maryn, William and Hazel Grisier, Sapulpa, Okla. Following a brunch, all enjoyed the Biblesta parade.

Visiting Jim Hinson and Joanne McIntyre Sunday were Jim’s daughter, Dianna, and her husband, Richard Deeds, from Emporia.

The special occasion was Jim’s 85th birthday.
