HUMBOLDT The revival of Humboldts downtown shopping district will take another step forward Saturday with the grand opening of jae & co., a store featuring a wide variety of new clothing for women, misses and juniors. The store is at 824 Bridge St., on the north side of the square.
The event is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., which will be the stores normal Saturday hours. The shop also will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday each week.
Jeanie Newman owns the store with daughter Andrea Butcher.
The jae logo refers to three generations: Jeanie, Andrea and her daughter, Emmie, age 1.
Work to prep the shop began in mid-January with Jeanie taking full advantage of skills honed by husband Craig Newman, who produces furniture and other high-end projects at Bison Woodworking on Humboldts north edge. Andreas husband, Chase, also had a role.
The stores amenities are fetching, including a smartly done sales counter with its logo emblazoned at its center.
The Butchers recently moved to Humboldt after 12 years in Kansas City. He is employed at B&W Trailer Hitches; she works from home for a Kansas City agency.
With Jeanie an employee of Humboldts Ashley Clinic, the owners will rely on Jeanie Naft and Carman Huse to tend the shop on a daily basis.
Jeanie added that A Bolder Humboldt, an amalgamated effort of the Works family, Joe and Janie and offspring to make Humboldt a better and bolder place to live, work and visit, was instrumental in many phases of getting the shop up to snuff.
We saw a need and proposed the store, Andrea said. They (A Bolder Humboldt) jumped on it.
The dress shop also has home decor and shoes and occupies half the front of the century-old Bailey Hotel.
Other commercial opportunities are coming for the remainder of the hotel.
