Thermometers all over town have jumped to triple digits during the recent spate of hot weather, and the official temperature came within an eyelash of that Wednesday, topping out at 99 degrees.
The last time Iola officially had a triple-digit high was 102 on Aug. 14, 2007, which had followed a day of 101 and two of 100.
The forecast is for highs of 100 or more today and tomorrow, before slightly milder temperatures are forecast over the weekend and into next week.
