GARNETT — An Ottawa motorcyclist died during a pursuit with Anderson County law enforcement Friday morning just south of Garnett.

Luke L. Rea, 21, died after he lost control of a motorcycle and was struck by a semi-trailer, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol. The driver of the semi was not injured.

The motorcycle was being pursued by the Anderson County Sheriff’s department at about 5:28 a.m. Friday about one-and-a-half miles south of Garnett, the report said. The motorcycle attempted to pass the semi when its tire left the roadway onto the right shoulder and the driver lost control. The semi ran over the motorcycle and the driver.

The driver of the semi was identified as William D. Metcalf, 57, of Dallas.
