MORAN Election Day will carry more than a little intrigue in Moran this year.
Thats because the mayors seat has no announced candidates. Mayor Phillip Merkel declined to seek another term, and nobody else filed to replace him.
That means a write-in candidate will likely determine Morans next mayor.
The same will go for the City Council as well, where only one incumbent Corliss Lynes filed for re-election. Councilman Chad Lawson declined to run again. As with the mayor, that seat will be decided via write-in.
City Clerk Lori Evans said she and others have told folks around town about the vacancies, with the hopes of garnering interest, but has received little feedback.
COUNCIL members, meeting Monday, approved the purchase of a seated recumbent bicycle from Spirit Fitness, the same company that supplied the rest of the machines at 54 Fitness Center.
The device is ideal for elderly users and others rehabilitating injuries, noted resident Larry Ross, a Moran PRIDE/Thrive Committee member instrumental in getting the fitness center off the ground more than two years ago.
The cost of the apparatus is $3,100.
COUNCIL members scheduled a public hearing Nov. 4 to decide the fate of a home at 203 S. Elm St., which has fallen into a state of disrepair, and stands to be demolished.
