MORAN —  A Missouri man was killed in a one-vehicle accident just east of Moran Friday afternoon.
Michael K. Ramirez, 62, Kimberling City, Mo., was eastbound on U.S. 54 when he lost control of his vehicle, 1996 Chevy Suburban just east of U.S. 59.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported the vehicle careened between both the north and south guardrails of the Katy Railroad overpass several times before exiting the roadway into the north ditch.
The Suburban, which was towing a trailer, traveled several yards through the ditch until coming to rest near  a small stream.
Emergency personnel summoned to the scene had to contend with a Rottweiler in the cab of Ramirez’s vehicle.
The dog’s vicious demeanor forced officers to kill the animal so they could get to Ramirez, Allen County Sheriff’s Deputy Daren Kellerman told the Register.
Ramirez was declared dead at the scene. An autopsy was ordered to determine cause of death.
