PITTSBURG — Pittsburg’s hospital is getting a new owner according to the Pittsburg Morning Sun.

Currently owned by Via Christi, the hospital will officially become a Mercy Health property this summer.

Both health systems are based in St. Louis, Mo.

Jeremy Drinkwitz, president of Mercy Joplin communities, said in a press release Thursday, “We want to continue (Mercy’s) long legacy of Cathlic healthcare.”

Mercy also oversaw the hospital in Fort Scott until it closed in 2018.

The hospital has served Pittsburg more than 120 years.

Both Mercy and Via Christi are among the 20 largest health systems in the country, according to the Morning Sun.

Mercy operates more than 50 outpatient facilities and employs more than 50,000 while Via Christi has 50 hospitals and an estimated 134,000 employees.
