Tomorrow night let it all hang out.

The drag race — think men not cars — will begin at 10:30 p.m. Friday on the west side of the square.

The race has become a highlight of the Charley Melvin activities where men good-humoredly dress in gaudy women’s attire and race up and down Washington Avenue.

The ladies shouldn’t feel left out because women are encouraged to participate in the race and give the men a run for their money.

For those who may be challenged as to what to wear — welcome to a woman’s world — participants are welcome to select from a multiple of styles available at the Shirt Shop, 20 W. Jackson, where all participants are being instructed to meet at 8:30 p.m. with $5 for the registration fee.

Women’s attire will be available at the shop for the men, but women who are wanting to get involved in the drag race will need to bring their own clothing — so ladies, get creative and raid a man’s closet.

Elizabeth Donnelly, president of Crime Stoppers and Shirt Shop owner and operator, allows the men to use dresses, purses, clip-on earrings, wigs and hats. Some men will even put on makeup and add some cleavage.

Similar to past years, there will be two categories of runners, the queens and the princesses.

“If there is someone who can’t or doesn’t want to run, they will be queens and they can strut,” Thrive Allen County’s executive director David Toland said. “If they want to run then they will be in the category of princesses.”
